Iowa is set to kick off the 2023 season on September 2nd against Utah State. The Hawkeyes may be without two key pieces.

Defensive Tackle and Finnelytics Preseason 2nd team All-Big10 selection, Noah Shannon, has been suspended for the season for betting. Iowa is looking to appeal the suspension.

Projected starting QB, Cade McNamara, was recently asked about his rehab process for a soft tissue injury. His response was, "I'm progressing, and that's all I want to say about that." Doesn't sound good for the Iowa QB. Deacon Hill is the projected backup at the moment, Iowa will probably be just fine without Shannon and McNamara in their opener against Utah State, however, they do travel to Iowa State in week 2. The Cyclones are also caught up in betting suspensions with their QB Hunter Dekkers.
